The Dynamic Compaction Crew Behind the Lens
July brings scorching heat across Jungar, sweltering waves engulfing the entire construction site. This is JIN BAODAO’s large-scale dynamic compaction project in Inner Mongolia. Over 50 workers and more than a dozen compaction machines operate simultaneously, creating a spectacular sight. While the filming crew ventures deep into the site for footage, I stay at the viewing platform to interview frontline staff and capture the authentic voices of dynamic compaction practitioners.
Voices from the Viewing Platform
From this vantage point, dozens of compaction machines stand like steel giants, their heavy rams rising and falling amid constant rumbling. I conduct interviews during workers’ rotating breaks. The site safety officer performs his duties rigorously, patrolling the whole site daily to uphold strict safety standards, hoping every coworker returns home safely. A compaction machine operator with over a decade of experience works diligently, treating his equipment as his livelihood. He remarks that the well-divided team operates like a precision machine with every part functioning smoothly. The project manager oversees overall operations. Faced with a tight construction schedule, he holds daily coordination meetings to resolve on-site issues, shouldering the responsibility to deliver the project on time.
Capturing Perseverance Under the Blazing Sun
Cameramen weave through the construction site with filming gear, capturing stunning construction shots: under the blue sky, the long booms of compaction machines lift high, and falling rams kick up surging loess dust. Enduring intense heat alongside field workers, no one slacks off. Roaring compaction machines and hardworking figures under the sun plainly show the daily perseverance of dynamic compaction crews. Every ram strike is soaked in sweat.
Documenting to Preserve Craftsmen’s Stories
After filming wraps up, I edit frame by frame by combining on-site footage and interview audio. Rising and falling rams, billowing dust, and sweating workers, paired with plain words from frontline staff, piece together a complete story of JIN BAODAO’s dynamic compaction crew.
