At six o’clock in the early morning, just as dawn broke, we set off for the JIN BAODAO dynamic compaction project site in Jungar Banner. We stayed on-site the entire day, departing at daybreak and returning to the office at nine in the evening. During this field trip, I took charge of both photography and interviews. Under the blistering July sun across the loess land, I captured the full picture of construction through the lens and listened to the genuine voices of frontline builders through conversations.

No shelters dotted the Jungar wilderness in midsummer; the blazing sun bore down and waves of heat swept over the site. The construction area echoed with roaring machinery, with more than a dozen dynamic compaction machines operating simultaneously. Heavy rammers rose and fell with powerful thuds, while over fifty construction workers performed their respective duties in orderly, busy motion. The entire site buzzed with vigorous, magnificent construction momentum. Our team divided tasks for coordinated work: my colleagues ventured deep into the operation zones for close-up shots, while I stayed at the viewing platform to capture panoramic footage and conduct on-site interviews during workers’ shift breaks.

Conversations with the site safety officer gave me a profound understanding of the immense responsibility and hardships inherent to frontline safety management. With numerous machines and a large workforce working in tandem, safety control remained a full-day priority. He patrolled the entire site daily to eliminate hidden hazards and closely monitor every minor detail. Guided by the principle of “issuing extra reminders and conducting thorough inspections rather than leaving any potential risks unaddressed”, he strove to safeguard all co-workers. Behind his plain words lay consistent rigor and unwavering dedication day in and day out.

A veteran rammer operator with over a decade of experience embodied craftsmanship in an ordinary post. Enduring sweltering temperatures inside the cab year-round and repeating monotonous compaction work, he handled every operation and piece of equipment with meticulous care. He stated that smooth project progress relies on seamless teamwork: every post must coordinate closely and fulfill its own responsibilities to maintain efficient operation of the whole construction system. Years of persistent diligence form the most touching character of grassroots builders.

Faced with tight construction schedules, the project manager demonstrated remarkable accountability. Coordinating dozens of machines, arranging staffing shifts, and forming closed-loop solutions for on-site challenges all test the team’s execution capacity. The project department holds daily morning briefings to coordinate and resolve construction bottlenecks promptly, steadily pushing forward project progress. Remaining calm and resilient amid pressure to guarantee efficient construction is the core responsibility and original aspiration of management staff.

A warm corner exists on the construction site: the kitchen run by the chef. While scorching sunlight blazes over the loess outside, constant stove fires fill the cramped kitchen with stifling heat. To ensure shift workers can enjoy hot meals at any time, he prepares ingredients early each morning and carefully portions every dish. Amid curling cooking fumes, he quietly prepares three daily meals. Though he never steps foot on the noisy construction zone, he comforts every sun-exposed laborer with hot food, sustaining the whole project with quiet, homely warmth.

Beneath the scorching sun, all site staff gave their utmost effort. Through the lens, heavy rammers rose and fell amid billowing dust; every worker labored steadfastly at their posts. High temperatures failed to slow construction work, nor did intense summer heat diminish their dedication. The authentic, bustling construction site itself is the most striking imagery.

As night fell, we wrapped up a full day of photography and interviews and headed back, arriving at the company at nine p.m. After a long, busy day on site, I sorted through all footage and edited videos. Magnificent shots of rising and falling rammers, dust-covered construction yards, sweating workers hard at work, and sincere testimonies from builders replayed vividly, piecing together the complete, heartwarming construction story of the Jungar Project.

At this moment, I gained a clearer understanding of the significance of documenting frontline work. We travel to construction grounds from dawn till dusk, not only to capture grand moments of infrastructure development, but also to record every faint yet brilliant glimmer of ordinary dedication behind large-scale projects. The steady completion of any engineering project hinges on coordinated efforts from management teams, round-the-clock protection from safety staff, and above all, countless frontline laborers toiling selflessly under sweltering heat.

We pay tribute to diligent work through our camera, and preserve original aspirations through recorded voices. This all-day frontline field trip granted me the opportunity to witness the power of infrastructure, record craftsmen’s perseverance, and convey quiet warmth amid ordinary labor. The land remains silent, yet the rhythmic thud of rammers tells a moving story. Every down-to-earth effort deserves to be remembered, and every dedicated JIN BAODAO staff member merits sincere respect.
